The 2024/25 Marmara Spike League is heating up as the regular season nears its end. In a nail-biting opener to Round 25, Cannes pulled off a stunning comeback against Tourcoing, winning 3-2 (25:16, 23:25, 20:25, 25:10, 13:15) on the road. With this victory, Cannes locks in a playoff spot, marking a return to the postseason four years after their last championship title.
A Match Full of Twists and Turns
Tourcoing came out strong, dominating the first and fourth sets, thanks in large part to Pablo Koukartsev’s incredible 24-point performance. The home team also had the upper hand in blocking, scoring 15 points compared to Cannes’ six. But in the most crucial moments, Cannes held their nerve.
Four players hit double digits for Cannes, with Lukas Demar leading the way with 15 points. Timo Beriot and Jakob Eckman added 14 each, with Eckman delivering an exceptional 72% attack success rate. Omar Biglino also contributed 10 points to round out a well-balanced team effort.
Playoff Picture and What’s Next
This win ensures that Cannes, the newly promoted side, cannot be overtaken by Paris in the standings. While their playoff ticket is now confirmed, the race for the top seed remains open between Chaumont and Montpellier, both tied at 48 points.
- Chaumont has the edge for first place – If Montpellier drops points against fourth-placed Tours, Chaumont could seal the top spot as early as Saturday.
- Nice is still fighting for a higher seed – Currently sitting sixth, Nice has an outside chance of breaking into the top four with back-to-back wins and a little help from other results.
The action continues through the weekend, with the rest of Round 25 set to determine final standings before the regular season wraps up next week.
