As L’Équipe reported, 12 clubs of the French men’s top division made a consensus on making a revolution in the tournament from the next season, bringing it close to the standards of some of the strongest leagues in Europe, such as Italian and Polish.
The big reform of the championship should include: video challenge (at the moment reserved only for the matches broadcast on TV) for each match, the unique floor (taraflex or gerflor), and LED advertising boards around the court. All these things should be mandatory for the 2018/19 season. Also, each gymnasium will need to have a giant screen.
The Ligue A clubs also want to make a minimum budget for each club (between one million and a million and a half euros) for which they asked assistance from the league organization (Ligue nationale de volley – LNV).
In addition to these reforms, the clubs of the elite division voted a return of the tournament to 14 clubs, maintaining the playoffs and a complete reconstruction of the national cup based on the Italian model with the top eight teams from the first part of the season competing.
All these demands will be evaluated in the coming weeks by the executive committee of the LNV.
