The start of the game was not that good for Aurubis who trailed 13:20 and even though at this point the players captained by Imke Wedekind could finally find their rhythm, it was already too late to change the course of the set (22-25).
That comeback continued in the second set where Aurubis imposed their quality and pace to finish it at 25-17 after 23 minutes with a point scored by Alyssa Valentine.
However, the start of the third set was simply disastrous (1:7) but the Germans could regroup and draw level at 12. After the score was kept close up to 23 all, Aurubis showed great composure in the final moments to close it out at 25-23 for the provisional 2:1.
The Germans could play their best in the fourth set which they cashed at 25-16 to move to the next round of the competition.
“Our opponents showed some good defense but we responded with a solid block and also with good side-out” commented Aurubis head coach Helmut von Soosten after the match.
