VfB Friedrichshafen opened 2025 with a 3-2 victory over WWK Volleys Herrsching in Munich’s BMW Park, overcoming a determined home side and health challenges within their squad. The visitors secured the win with set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, and 15-12, strengthening their hold on third place in the standings and continuing a stellar run with nine wins in their last ten matches.

The evening began with fanfare, as the festive atmosphere from New Year’s celebrations lingered. However, once the action started, Herrsching quickly took control. Friedrichshafen struggled with unforced errors and coordination issues, allowing the hosts to edge the first set 26-24.

Undeterred, Friedrichshafen rallied in the second set. Led by José Masso’s dominant net play and Michal Superlak’s grit despite battling illness, the visitors found their rhythm. They built an early lead and sealed the set 25-19. The momentum carried into the third, with Wessel Keemink orchestrating the attack and Jackson Young delivering critical points to claim another convincing set at 25-20.

But Herrsching wasn’t ready to concede. Spurred on by their vocal supporters, they fought back in the fourth set. Their persistence paid off, as they pulled ahead late to win 25-22 and force a deciding fifth set.

In the tiebreak, Friedrichshafen rose to the occasion and Herrsching serve error ultimately handed Friedrichshafen the set, and the match, at 15-12.

The win keeps Friedrichshafen close to second-placed Lüneburg, while Herrsching remains fourth. Both teams now shift focus to upcoming challenges—Herrsching faces Düren on January 19, while Friedrichshafen will take on defending champions Berlin at home on January 18.
