German women’s volleyball faces a major blow as SC Potsdam Sport & Marketing GmbH has withdrawn its application for a license in the 1st Bundesliga for the 2025/26 season.

Despite several deadline extensions, the club could not prove the required financial stability. Since the licensing notice on June 18, it was evident that Potsdam’s plans were insufficient, and even a re-licensing attempt failed. The team also faced sanctions from the 2024/25 season.
As a result, SC Potsdam will no longer compete in the top league, though their rights in the 2nd Bundesliga remain unaffected.
This decision not only ends Potsdam’s Bundesliga run but also leaves a significant gap in German women’s volleyball, where the club had been a strong and respected competitor.
