VfB Suhl LOTTO Thüringen opened the 2026/27 season with silverware after defeating Dresdner SC in straight sets to win the Supercup in Coburg.
Playing in front of 2,000 spectators at the HUK-COBURG arena, Suhl prevailed 3-0, although the scoreline hardly reflected how closely contested the match was. All three sets were decided by just two points, with Suhl winning 26-24, 29-27 and 25-23.
The opening set remained tight until Suhl found greater stability in the closing stages. Hannah Hartmann was particularly influential from the serve line and in attack as the Thüringen side edged ahead before surviving Dresden’s late pressure.
Dresden appeared poised to level the match in the second set after building a 17-11 advantage. Suhl, however, steadily erased the deficit and forced an extended finish. After Dresden failed to convert five set points, Lucia Herdova closed out a dramatic 29-27 comeback to give Suhl a commanding 2-0 lead.
The third set followed a similar pattern. Dresden moved ahead 11-8, but Suhl responded with improved blocking and serving. Hartmann helped bring the teams level at 13-13 before Suhl established a decisive advantage late in the set. Emma Boyd ultimately finished the contest at 25-23.
Hartmann was named MVP after contributing 14 points, including eight attack kills, four aces and two blocks. Svea Naujack led Suhl’s scoring with 15 points, while Boyd produced an especially efficient attacking performance, converting nine of 12 attacks for a 75% kill rate.
Suhl recorded 47 attack points, seven blocks and six aces, compared with Dresden’s 42 attack points, five blocks and five aces. Suhl finished with a 42% attacking success rate, slightly ahead of Dresden’s 39%, and was notably stronger in counterattack, converting 44% compared with Dresden’s 36%.
