Germany’s captain Dirk Westphal
“We are happy to win 3–0. We feel we had much confidence, and the first two sets were pretty good without any big mistakes. We had good pressure with our service, and they struggled in reception. We had a big advantage in blocking as well. In the third set we started well, but we lost focus near the end. We struggled on reception, made some not smart decisions. Maybe a little too hectic, but we can be quite happy we won in the end. The third wasn’t as good as the first two sets, but all in all, we can be happy.”
Germany’s coach Vital Heynen
“I have to tell you a story. My captain [Westphal], this was his first time to be captain in his life. And this is the first press conference he has had in his life. And as you can see he talked a lot. So I will keep it short, and agree with my captain. We did not make many mistakes. The difference between us was small near the end of the match, and I think Japan will give us more problems tomorrow. But like Dirk, I’m happy with the result. I think tomorrow Japan will be much more relaxed and play far better than today.”
Japan’s captain Yu Koshikawa
“Tomorrow will be the last day, but it’s just the last day of World League for us. Our target is the Asian Cup. All the same, we look forward to giving our best effort tomorrow.”
Japan’s player Kunihiro Shimizu
“I think I wasted a lot of good chances today when I had good balls on the attack. I hit at the wrong angles and got blocked far too much. Tomorrow I hope to set the pace for a much better match for us.”
