In away Game 1 of the best-of-five 2017/18 Bundesliga playoff finals, BR Volleys broke the curse of encounters against fierce rivals Friedrichshafen this season – 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19). Before this match, BR Volleys lost all five duels against the „Häfler“ in various competition in the 2017/18. Furthermore, Friedrichshafen had a significant advantage in mutual clashes overall as well, 71-42.
Robert Kromm and Australian Adam White topped BR Volleys today with 15 points apiece, while American Kyle Russell added 4 kill blocks. In Friedrichshafen, the Pole Bartłomiej Bołądź and David Sossenheimer scored 14 points each.
BR Volleys will have the chance to come to a win from completing a hat-trick of Bundesliga titles on April 29.
An interesting fact for the end of a report, the last time neither of these two clinched the national title was 21 years ago (SV Bayer Wuppertal 1996/97)! After that, Friedrichshafen claimed 13 and BR Volleys 8 gold medals.
