GRE M: Derby time in Greece – Panathinaikos host Olympiacos!

by WoV

The main event in the volleyball world this Monday will be the eternal derby of Athens. It's Panathinaikos vs. Olympiacos (18:00 CET).

Every single clash of these two rivals is special, while this one will be quite interesting for many reasons. Olympiacos is currently the only undefeated team in the league with the overall score of 17-0. On top of that, the red & white crew have established a real domination over their biggest rivals, as Olympiacos have won 20 out of the previous 21 derbies against Panathinaikos!

Just in this season, Olympiacos defeated Panathinaikos twice – Once in the Greek Championship and once in the League Cup.

The hosts will therefore have a special motive to finally beat their arch rivals and to break a very bad streak at home court. The last time Panathinaikos managed to beat Olympiacos at home court was back in 2010… Seven years ago!

Interesting enough, back then in 2010 the best player of Panathinaikos was Liberman Agamez, who now plays for none other than for – Olympiacos.

Also, this is the clash of the 2nd placed team (Panathinaikos) and the 1st placed team (Olympiacos) on the standings.
