Sada Cruzeiro made their Superliga home debut a statement! The Minas Gerais giants swept Azulim/Sicoob Monte Carmelo 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-18). The game was brought forward from round 10 because of Cruzeiro’s Club World Championship commitments. Opposite Welinton Oppenkoski led all scorers with 18 points (17 kills on 17/27, 63%, plus one block), Argentine outside hitter Manuel Armoa added 13 and middle Lucas Saatkamp Lucão 12. Gabriel Scheffer and Lucas Lima scored 9 each for Monte Carmelo.
“It was a good, balanced game in which we managed to impose our rhythm,” said Oppenkoski. With two wins from two (after a 3-2 opener at Montes Claros), Sada Cruzeiro move provisionally top on 5 points. Monte Carmelo are still pointless after two defeats. Next for Cruzeiro: a trip to Vôlei Guarulhos.
