“We were surprised with the unjustified criticism of French posts and reports against Olympiacos and his fans, following the suspension of Tour’s athlete Nathan Wounembaina.
The history of our club has proven that Olympiacos is always against racism and any action contradicting the values of sports and fair play. The above has been proven time and again; Olympiacos – led by the Football department – has organized various events and has implemented campaigns, in regards to social responsibility.
We can only take the false claims of French Media as a product of bad judgment and misunderstanding, considering nobody else has made such claims. In fact, what the video of the game showcases is that neither the head coach nor Mr. Wounembaina’s teammates felt any racist attack against the player and were seen wondering why he stopped playing.
At that crucial point of the game (24-24), what in reality happened is that Olympiacos’ fans, always supporting their team, whistled and shouted against the opponent – something expected in similar situations around the sports world. This fact is totally different from what the French team mentions and from racist comments. Olympiacos would never accept racist comments, with the club always fighting against racism. Christian Karembeu, French former international footballer is an Olympiacos’ ambassador of those initiatives.”
Recall that Cameroonian player left the game because he heard racist shouts towards him.
