Boosted by the huge support of the crowd at the Palabarton, the Italian champions and also the top seed Sir Safety Conad Perugia overcame the obstacle called Azimut Leo Shoes Modena (No.4 seed) in five intense sets in Game 5 to reach the 2018/19 SuperLega Credem Banca playoff finals: 19-25, 27-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8.
Perugia remained without a usual contribution of Cuban Wilfredo León for nearly three whole sets, being down 0-1 and 1-2, and even 17-23 in the second set. But, the right ankle injury that the Pole Bartosz Bednorz sustained in the second set disturbed the play of Modena a lot.
León finished the top scorer for Perugia with 22 points (3 aces), while Ivan Zaytsev notched 21 (3 aces) for Modena.
The series of the playoff finals between Perugia and Lube starts on May 1.
