ITA W: Last-placed side Perugia down world champions Imoco

Today, Perugia wrote down only their second victory of the season in the Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile and still occupy the last place in the charts. But they beat club world champions Imoco by a 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 17-25, 15-10) in a postponed match of Round 9! Only four days after becoming planetary champions, Imoco head coach Santarelli decided not to put in protocol neither of the players from the lineup that lifted the trophy in China, giving space to the backups and youth team members. So, the victory of Perugia that ended Imoco’s unbeaten run of nine games isn’t really a sensation. Brazilian duo Regiane Bidias “Régis” and Rosamaria Montibeller scored 24 points apiece for the winning side. American Chiaka Ogbogu tallied 21 points, including 8 kill blocks! The 19-year-old libero Eleonora Fersino made 83% reception (35 digs, 74% perfect).

Another team that just came back from the Club World Championship suffered the same fate today. Igor Gorgonzola Novara, whose head coach Barbolini unlike Imoco’s didn’t give a day off to main players lost at home to Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri.
