The Italian Volleyball Federation (Fipav) denied the possibility of the playoffs and officially shut down all volleyball activities in the 2019/20 season.

After revaluating the emergency situation linked to the pandemic of COVID-19, the Fipav has decreed the definitive conclusion of all championships of each category. The governing body of volleyball in Italy thus confirmed the decision of both men’s and women’s league, who voted to end the season. The Fipav decided not to award titles, relegations nor promotions to championships.

However, the presidents of the two top divisions, Diego Mosna (men’s) and Mauro Fabris (women’s) didn’t like one part of Fipav’s decision, the one related to denying the possibility of organizing playoffs, which resulted in the resignation of both league’s heads.

The Fipav stated it has already started to work on planning the next sporting season.
