Modena opened up very well. New acquisitions Kampa and Bartman connected very well and showed that they will be a deadly combination this season. First set went to guests 22-25.
Serbian stacked Perugia then started to play the way coach Kovac expects out of them. Atanasijevic was amazing as usual, Petric as well and home side was suddenly in front by winning next two sets quite easily 25-21, 25-16.
But when it comes to teams of the similar quality game is never over. Modena players refused to give up and they had something to prove. Quesque, Bartman and others were fired up to force out a tie-break and they did just that.
Entering the fifth set, momentum was on the Modena’s side but high spirit of Perugia never dropped down. Great services of Mitic earned the home team an early lead. Modena came close very fast but sequence of great defences and some mistakes of their own, Perugia was significantly ahead 8-4. Couple of great plays by Perugia’s defence was enough for second 3-2 win in a row for the home team.
Atanasijevic and Bartman fought an opposites battle with Serbian going ahead with 22 points. Bartman scored 21.
