In the third round of the SuperLega Credem Banca 2021-2022, Volley Monza came back to court after their amazing performance at the Italian Super Cup in which they lost at the final against Trentino, but took home the silver on their very first appearance at the tournament. Today Massimo Eccheli’s team faced Gioella Prisma Taranto at the Arena di Monza.
Vero Volley Monza wanted to keep up with the positive start of the season they’ve had so far, beating 3-1 Modena at home and then losing on the derby against Milan in a very close match that ended 2-3 for Roberto Piazza’s team. While Taranto was looking for their second victory of the season, they lost 1-3 on the first round against Vibo Valentia, but won their last match 3-0 against Ravenna.
The home team handled the first set easily, with an unstoppable Grozer that scored 9 points and a general 61% of attacking proficiency the monzesi took the first set 25-18.
The second set was a different story Monza lowered its level a bit and struggled to attack, Randazzo raised up the attacking and serve the proficiency and gave some confidence to its team who lead most of the set but Eccheli made a change to help raise Monza’s block and put the teams’ captain Thomas Beretta on the court, who scored a monster block right after entering to put some pressure to Taranto, that could not handle it very well. They made some mistakes and struggled on reception this gave Monza the chance to even things. Grozer maintained the high level with a marvelous 83% attacking proficiency. Dzavoronok then went to serve scored an ace and gave the home team the advantage and later the set by 25-23.
The last set the home team showed a fantastic team performance, with several blocks of Davyskiba at the beginning of the set, coach Di Pinto made some changes to the team and put Palonsky, Gironi and Stefani to try to raise the confidence and catch Monza, but the home team was too strong and closed the set 25-18, therefore, gained their 2 victories of this season by 3-0.
