France is one win away from defending their Olympic volleyball title as they defeated Italy 3-0 in the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Games. The reigning champions showcased their dominance with set scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-21, advancing to the gold medal match.
The French team, buoyed by a roaring crowd of over 10,000, will face Poland in the final on Saturday, August 10, at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT). Poland secured their spot in the final after a thrilling five-set victory over the United States (25-23, 25-27, 14-25, 25-23, 15-13).
Italy, led by Alessandro Michieletto and Yuri Romanò, struggled against a well-coordinated French squad. Michieletto was limited to seven points, while Romanò and middle blocker Roberto Russo managed ten and nine points, respectively. Despite Italy’s efforts, France’s standout performances by Trévor Clévenot, with 17 points, and Earvin Ngapeth, with 15 points, proved too much for the Italians.
Italy will now compete for bronze against the United States on August 9 at 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT).
