It was a decisive weekend in the SuperLega Credem Banca, as Round 20 brought clarity to both the top and bottom of the table. Tears for Grottazzolina, relief for Cisterna, and celebration in Monza – Sunday had a bit of everything.
Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina battled bravely in Trento, pushing Itas Trentino to five sets in a tense two-hour clash. Despite earning a point in the 3-2 defeat, the result confirmed their relegation to Serie A2. Georgi Tatarov of Grottazzolina led the charge with 23 points, and the visitors fought until the very last ball, but it simply wasn’t enough.
At the other end of the standings, Vero Volley Monza secured their place in the Scudetto Playoffs. Their straight-sets win over Padova, combined with Cuneo’s loss to Cisterna, sealed eighth place and the final postseason ticket.
Cisterna Volley, meanwhile, delivered when it mattered most. A clean 3-0 win over Cuneo guaranteed their survival in the top flight. Lanza and Barotto led the way, while Cuneo’s playoff hopes officially came to an end.
At the top of the table, Sir Susa Vim Perugia held firm. The league leaders survived a five-set battle against Piacenza to maintain a four-point cushion over Rana Verona, who continued their strong form with a convincing 3-0 road win in Milan.
With just two rounds remaining, the playoff picture is set, the relegation verdict is in, and the race for first place is heating up. The SuperLega season is heading for a thrilling finish.
