Italy needed a win against Poland in order to clinch the second spot in Pool B, and it all looked perfect for the Blue squad. They were ahead by 2-0 in sets, they only needed one more to qualify for the semifinals. At the same time, Poland have already lost all chances to advance to the next stage, but the red and whites did not want to surrender.

They tied the overall score to 2-2 in sets, while they were just a step away of making a major comeback in the tie-break. It was 14:10 for Italy… Poland reduced the margin to 14:13… Still, Italian squad created a good attacking play through middle and managed to finish the match – 15:13! Italy and Russia advanced to the semifinals, while Poland and Belgium got eliminated from the competition.

Therefore, we know both semifinals pairs at the Women’s European Olympic Qualifier. Italy will play against Netherlands (Friday, 15:30 CET), while Turkey will face Russia (Friday, 18:00 CET).
