A small comfort for the Italian crew at the end. The Blue squad scored their very first win at the Rio 2016 women’s volleyball tournament in the final round of the group stage, by defeating Puerto Rico in straight sets.

Unfortunately for them, this score will not have any major impact on the final standings. Italy will end the competition as the 5th placed team in Group B, while Puerto Rico stayed down at the 6th place.

Neither of them will play in the quarterfinals.

Italy – Puerto Rico 3:0 (25:14, 25:13, 25:22)

Italy: Egonu 17, Sulla 11, Guiggi 8, Chirichella 8, Orro 4, Del Core 4, Danesi 4, Centoni 1, Ortolani, De Gennaro, Gennari.

Puerto Rico: Ocasio 9, Santana 8, Oquendo 5, Cruz 4, Enright 3, Morales 2, Rosa 1, Reyes 1, Seilhamer, Venegas, Mojica, Valentin.

Group B: USA 4-0 (11 points), Netherlands 4-1 (11 points), Serbia 3-2 (10 points), China 2-2 (7 points), Italy 1-4 (3 points), Puerto Rico 0-5 (0 points).
