Berruto
Berruto wrote an article for an Italian daily newspaper “Avvenire” based in Milano which quickly went viral. There is a good reason for that – it is a breathtaking article, a tribute to Brazil National Team head coach Bernardo Rezende after he took 2016 Olympic Games gold medal.
Here are some parts of Berruto’s article on Rezende:
“That firebomb passion, the spirit of sacrifice that shines through every facial expression, every gesture, makes playing against him as an unforgettable experience. There is nothing granted as he puts you to the test at any time and requires the ability to draw on every ounce of mental and physical energy. The same energy that he has requested these many years from his athletes, putting the indicator arrow of the attitude on one place: always on one hundred percent. It remains the only essential characteristic of leaders. What is required from themselves it gives the right and the moral strength to be asked from the others. Bernardinho has written a book on leadership ‘Turning sweat into gold’,” wrote ex head coach of Italy.

“In the beautiful (Rio Olympics) title, there is the whole philosophy of the word volleyball: hard work and talent lead to success but the effort comes first. The never ending story of this coach has reached its zenith on August 21, 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, in Maracanãzinho, at, more or less, 3:00 PM local time. Is there a bigger dream than to win the gold medal at the Olympic Games, at the helm of the national team of your country, in a final which takes place in the city where you were born and where you live with your child and with yourself leading the team in the role of a coach and him as the captain? No, there is no greater dream. Or, if it exists, I cannot imagine it. Congratulations and standing ovation,” added Berruto.
