ITA W: Casalmaggiore champions at mid-season, Conegliano beat Foppapedretti in Super Cup re-run (VIDEO)

Conegliano vs. Foppapedretti

Title holders prevailed in great clash against Foppapedretti Bergamo in Round 11 of Italian Women’s Volleyball Championship (final round in 2016)  3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17) in sold-out “Palaverde” gymnasium (5,344 spectators). The match was a rerun of Super Cup final which occurred at the same venue on December 8. And the outcome was the same. Dutch Robin de Kruijf topped Conegliano scorers with 22 points. Martina Guiggi had 15 (4 blocks) in ‘Foppa’.

This win gave Conegliano second place in the standings and Südtirol Bolzano as opponents in the quarter-final of the national Cup on the January 5 (quarterfinal pairs are determined by the position in the standings after the last round of the year).

Pomì Casalmaggiore are the Winter Champions of Serie A1 after surviving a scare against Metalleghe Montichiari 3-2 at home. Reigning Champions League title holders achieved fifth win in a row thanks to 26 points from Croatian Samanta Fabris while American Lauren Gibbemeyer made 7 blocks! Serbian Sanja Malagurski scored 11 in Montichiari.

Igor Gorgonzola Novara are also on a five-game winning streak after beating Yamamay Busto Arsizio 3-1. Croatian Katarina Barun-Šušnjar highlighted winners with 24. Valentina Diouf scored same number of points on the other side.
