ITA M: Latina, burdened with injuries, throw defending champions Lube on their knees! Milano out of breath in Perugia

Latina vs. Lube

After a poor start in the Italian Volleyball Championship, which consisted of two defeats, Latina made a 2-game winning streak after throwing Lube on their knees in Round 4 by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 28-26). Latina were highly weakened in the 48th edition of, what an Italian media called, the Serie A1 classic (Classico della Superlega). Just like in all previous games, they could not count on the Japanese receiver Yuki Ishikawa and French middle blocker Nicolas Le Goff. Lube coach Giampaolo Medei had all players at his disposal but made some changes in the starting lineup by leaving Serbian middle blocker Dragan Stanković on the bench until the third set and replacing U.S. receiver Taylor Sander after two sets. Gabriele Maruotti topped Latina with 13 points, while Osmany Juantorena made 14 points for Lube.

The real derby of Round 4 was held in „PalaEvangelist“ gymnasium where Sir Safety Conad Perugia hosted a game versus Revivre Milano. Instead of a competitive game, 3,500 fans saw their favorite team cruising past rivals in three sets. The U.S. international Aaron Russell highlighted Perugia with 18 points. The Dutch Nimir Abdel-Aziz notched 20 for Milano.

Azimut Modena (17 points of the French Earvin Ngapeth) did not need to sweat a lot against Wixo LPR Piacenza (10 points of the French Trévor Clévenot).

Calzedonia Verona emerged as winners from an intense game against the home side Kioene Padova, 3-2, again playing without Greek opposite Mitar Djurić, who will undergo more detailed examinations for his injury next week. The Slovenian Tonček Štern replaced him well, scoring 22 points. Luigi Randazzo collected 24 for Padova.
