Led by incredible Cuban Yadrian Escobar, the Sunbirds totally disarmed title holders Gosei Trefuerza 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-14). Suntory took advantage of one of the worst displays of Croatian Igor Omrčen this season to cause first defeat to Trefuerza in Top 6. Main attacking power of the champions scored „only“ 15 points. As for above mentioned Escobar, he topped the Sunbirds’ scorers with 28 points of which four were aces.
But since Toray Arrows, the other undefeated team so far, also suffered defeat, Trefuerza kept leadership in the rankings (spot no.1 ensures direct qualification to the playoff final). The Arrows lost to JTEKT Stings in straight sets thanks to Hiroaki Asano, who collected 19 points. Macedonian Nikola Gjorgiev scored 22 for Toray.
Toyota Queenseis suffered surprising loss to Hitachi Rivale 3-1 (27-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-18) in Women’s V-League. Hisae Watanabe highlighted Hitachi with 30 points. Azerbaijani bomber Polina Rahimova scored 33 (4 blocks) for the Queenseis.
With 21 points, Bulgarian Emiliya Nikolova led NEC Red Rockets to four-set victory over JT Marvelous, where Mizuki Tanaka noted 13.
