PAN AMERICAN CUP U23 W: Argentina Clinches Bronze at U23 Women’s Pan American Cup, Defeating Peru

Argentina claimed the bronze medal at the fifth edition of the U23 Women’s Pan American Cup held at Sonora Arena, Hermosillo, Mexico, overcoming Peru in a 3-1 victory (24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21).

The Argentinian team concluded the tournament with a 4-2 record, finishing third, while Peru wrapped up in fourth place, holding a 3-3 record. This marks Argentina’s second bronze medal in the history of the tournament, following their third-place finish in 2012 and a silver medal in 2016.

Argentina showcased a resilient comeback after losing the first set, overturning a four-point deficit in the second set (15-19) to secure the set 25-19, scoring 10 consecutive points. Peru made a gallant effort in the third set, trailing 16-24 but fell short as Argentina closed it 25-21. The fourth and final set also went Argentina’s way with a 25-21 scoreline.

The bronze medalists led with a 53-48 advantage in attack points and a slight 10-9 lead in blocks. Argentina also held a significant 11-6 edge in points from serves, despite committing 24 unforced errors compared to Peru’s 25.

Avril Garcia, Argentina’s middle blocker, emerged as the top scorer of the match, with an impressive 24 points—17 attacks, five blocks, and three aces. Outside hitter Milena Margaria added to Argentina’s tally, contributing 13 points.

Peru saw solid performances from three of its players, with opposite Maria Paula Rodriguez leading the way with 17 points, followed by team captain Alondra Alarcon with 15 points, and outside hitter Aixa Vigil rounding out with 12 points.
