PAC 2016 W: Puerto Rico send title holders USA home to advance to first ever final

Puerto Rico shocked USA in the semifinal of the 2016 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 25-20).

Karina Ocasio with 25 points and Stephanie Enright with 14 points were the most deserving players for the first ever Puerto Rico’s participation in the final of the tournament.

Defending champions USA committed too many unforced errors (30). Rhamat Alhassan was the best scorer for the North American side with 12 points, followed by Megan Courtney with 11.

Hosts Dominican Republic reached their 11th gold medal match after prevailing Cuba National Team 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-21) in front of a full house at Ricardo Arias Gymnasium. So far, Dominican ladies were successful in the final four times.

Gina Mambrú collected 17 points while Bethania de la Cruz added 15 for the winning side. Heidy Rodríguez scored 14 and Daymara Lescay 10 points for Cuba.

The final of the XV Pan American Cup is scheduled for today, July 10, at 23:00 CET.
