USA recovered from a shock which they suffered in the semifinal against Puerto Rico to storm past Cuba 3-1 (20-25, 25-9, 25-15, 25-9) in the match for the bronze medal. It was the ninth medal for the United States in total in the history of the Pan American Cup, third bronze.
Micha Hancock fired 12 aces to break her own Pan American Cup record of 11 aces in a single match set earlier this week against Costa Rica. She finished the tournament with outstanding 50 aces, which was another record since Cuba’s Melissa Vargas had 28 last year.
Hancock had 15 points to lead USA scorers. Cuba’s Daymara Lescay collected eight points for the losers.
