Argentina opened the 12th Pan American Cup with a victory over Puerto Rico in three sets (25-20, 25-14, 25-17).

Silver medallist in the past two editions, the South American squad was led by Cristian Poglajen, the highest scorer with 14 points. Opposite Maurice Armando Torres led Puerto Rico’s offensive with eight points.

Results, Day 1

Argentina – Puerto Rico (25-20, 25-14, 25-17). Top scorers: Poglajen 14, Crer 11; Torres 8, S. Sanchez 7.

Cuba – Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22). Top scorers: Schouten 16, Sclater 16, Demyanenko 11; Emerson Rodriguez 11, Edson Valencia 11, José Verdi 11.

USA– Mexico  3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18). Top scorers: Lopez 23, Gutierrez 18; H. Lopez 16, Caceres 14, Elvis Contreras 14.

Canada – Venezuela 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 25-15, 25-22). Top scorers: Langlois 18, Stahl 17; Barajas 12, Garay 12.
