After they all achieved the second win in the NORCECA Qualifiers penultimate round, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago secured their berth in the World Champs which will be held next year in Japan.
In Pool A in Santo Domingo, the hosts Dominican Republic swept Jamaica 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-6) with 11 points from Bethania de la Cruz, while Puerto Rico also had an easy job in their Round 2 encounter and downed Guatemala 3-0. Stephanie Enright and Alba Hernández each scored 9 points for Puerto Rico.
In Pool B in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago thrilled the home crowd by beating Costa Rica 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-22) to earn their spot in the 2018 World Championship, while Mexico did the same by defeating Dominica in straight sets.
With these four teams making to the 2018 FIVB Women’s World Championship, the number of teams that booked their ticket for the tournament in Japan increased to 23, which means that only one more place is vacant. It will be filled in the upcoming South American Qualification Tournament in Peru.
