The top seed Omonia beat No.2 Green Air Pafiakos on the road by a 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 16-14) in Game 2 of the 2018/19 OPAP A Men’s championship playoff finals to win their fourth national title and dethrone their rivals. Game 1 ended with a 3-1 victory of the new titleholders who won the series by a 4-0. According to the Cypriot league regulations, each victory any of the rivals who face each other in the playoffs have achieved against the other in the regular season counts in the playoffs. Knowing that Omonia defeated Pafiakos both times in the regular season, they were two victories ahead of their opponents in the finals. Omonia were dominant in the OPAP league this season, not suffering a single defeat: 14-0 in the regular season and 4-0 in the playoffs, losing only nine sets (54-9 set ratio!).
Omonia, who also clinched the 2018/19 Cypriot Cup, were driven through the season by the Brazilian trio, of which two have returned to the team from Nicosia after a couple of seasons, winning two national titles (of three consecutive of Omonia) in their previous stay with the club (2014/15, 2015/16). These two players are the opposite Reinaldo Silva and setter Bruno Alves “Canhoto”. The third Brazilian in Omonia this season is the veteran outside hitter, a two-time FIVB World League winner, Leonardo Miranda “Léo Mineiro”.
