The third and last club tournament in Japan, Kurowashiki Cup, was held at the Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium and it was conquered by Suntory Sunbirds. The team in which the main star is the Russian giant Dmitriy Muserskiy beat the V.League champions Panasonic Panthers, whose colors defends the Pole Michał Kubiak, in the final by a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 33-31). Thus, the Sunbirds dethroned the Panthers in the competition.
Kurowashiki Cup is a traditional tournament in Japan that is played at the very end of the season and with 16 teams participating (all 8 from the V.League, the best 4 from the V.Challenge League /Division 2/, the best 3 from the national university championship and the winner of the national high-school championship).
The Sunbirds won the Kurowashiki Cup for the seventh time, the first time after four years.
In the Women’s competition, the trophy went to Toray Arrows.
