After Carli Lloyd said goodbye to playing for the U.S. National Team, another player did the same – Lauren Gibbemeyer. The middle blocker ended her international career after nearly a decade. The 30-year-old player announced her decision via social media, saying that it was everything but an easy decision.
“After dedicating almost a decade of my life to our USA volleyball program, as some may have noticed, I’ve decided to step away. There sometimes comes a point in our lives when we must prioritize our values even if that means sacrificing a dream. I wish things could have happened differently but in the end, there’s always a lesson to be learned! Sending love to my USA girls and good luck to everyone in their upcoming pro seasons!“ a one-time FIVB World Grand Prix and FIVB Nations League winner posted.
Just like Lloyd, Gibbemeyer will also play for Eczacıbaşı VitrA next season, which will be her second straight season with the Turkish side.
