The Netherlands got the organization of the Women’s Olympic Qualifier, the CEV announced. The city in which the tournament, whose eventual winners will secure the place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, will take place is Apeldoorn. Thus, the information that Turkey will organize the tournament turned to be wrong.
The top eight teams (divided into two pools of four teams each) from the latest European ranking, excluding those who have already qualified (Italy, Russia and Serbia), will participate in the event. These eight teams are the Netherlands (host, 3), Turkey (4), Germany (6), Bulgaria (7), Poland (8), Belgium (9), Croatia (10) and Azerbaijan (11).
The Qualifier will take place at the Omnisport hall in which the eighth-finals and quarter-finals of the 2019 Men’s EuroVolley were held, a few days ago. Apeldoorn also hosted the 2015 Women’s EuroVolley, which the Netherlands co-hosted with Belgium.
Recall that the Men’s Qualifier was awarded to Berlin.
