The elite of the Bulgarian volleyball has officially demanded the dismissal of the country’s federation President Dancho Lazarov. The initiative was announced at a special press conference today and is supported by 10 of the leading clubs in Bulgaria, both male and female. All of them insist on scheduling an extraordinary general election meeting on January 16 next year.
Famous former national team player Vladimir Nikolov, the President of the Men’s team of Levski, explained that the initiative has a goal to get the volleyball federation that will stop the downhill of the Bulgarian volleyball, care for clubs and focus its efforts on youth. Lazarov, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Volleyball Federation (CEV) a month ago, has also been tied with actions that can be considered as corruption by these 10 teams. The background of the request for Lazarov’s dismissal lies in his confrontation with the federation Vice President Lyubomir Ganev.
