Tianjin entered the final of the 2019/20 Super League playoffs by eliminating the reigning champions Beijing with a 2-0 in the series. After sweeping the team from the county’s capital in Game 1 of the semifinals, Tianjin finished the job in Game 2 but much more difficult than in the first game: 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 15-5). Once again, Zhu Ting was the highlight of Tianjin. In her second match upon recovering from a wrist injury, world volleyball star poured in 29 points. She had support in prospect Li Yingying who scored 28 points. In Beijing, who couldn’t count on the setter Cai Yaqian and American Michelle Bartsch due to injuries, Australian Rachel Rourke tallied 24 points. The libero Wang Lin made 84% reception (19 digs, 79% perfect).
Led by Russian Tatyana Kosheleva (25 points) and Bulgarian Dobriana Rabadzhieva (97% reception, 34 digs, 62% perfect), Guangdong escaped elimination from the semifinals. They tied the series with Shanghai at 1-1 by writing down a 3-1 victory. German Louisa Lippmann scored 19 points for the losing side, while Wang Weiyi made 97% reception (30 digs, 73% perfect).
