Spaniard Fernando Muñoz will take on the role of the head coach of the Belgium Men’s National Team. The 49-year-old expert signed a contract with the KBVBV until 2024 with a good result at the CEV European Championships in 2021 and 2023 as the main objectives. The advancement of the “Red Dragons” to the 2022 FIVB World Championship is also indicated as a goal.
From 2011 to 2019, Muñoz led the Spain Men’s National Team. As a club head coach, he won the double crown (championship and cup) in Greece with Olympiacos S.F.P. two years in a row (2018 and 2019). Muñoz was voted as Best Coach in the league in 2019. During his club coaching career, he also won four league titles and two Cups and Super Cups in Spain (all with Unicaja Costa de Almería), a league title and a Cup in Turkey (both with Arkas Spor), and the title in the 2009 CEV Challenge Cup (Arkas Spor).
Interestingly, his first match as the Belgium NT head coach will be against his countrymen in the 2020 CEV European League, on May 30.
