Grothues won the first-ever employment dispute on appeal between volleyball player and club in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
A 32-year-old outside hitter started legal proceedings against Poland’s Chemik after terminating the contract with them in December 2017 due to the fact the club didn’t comply with its financial obligations. The case came to the CAS, who for the first time ever had to decide on an appeal against a decision of the FIVB Tribunal in an employment dispute between a volleyball player and club.
The CAS judged that Grothues had rightfully terminated the contract with the Polish powerhouse in October 2020, granting her a termination indemnity, interests, and legal fees. The 2016 Rio Olympics participant currently competes with Turkey’s Aydın B.Şehir Bld.
