Brazil – Chile 3-0 (25-10, 25-5, 25-4)
There was ony one team on court in this first match of the day and no surprise it was Brazil. Recent Grand Prix champions simply destroyed Chile in straight sets, allowing them only 19 points in a whole match!
Juciely Barreto was the games’s top scorer with 13 points and the most in Chile scored only 3, it was Catalina Melo.
Sheilla Castro: ”We were superior troughout the whole match and it was really expected outcome at the end. Tomorrow a much tougher opponent awaits us, but we are ready and focused”.
Chris Vorphal: ”Brazil showed today why they are an Olympic CHampions. We had no chance with them playing so good and when you add up our mistakes to it, you get the final reasult”.
Argentina – Colombia 3-2 (19-25, 31-29, 11-25, 25-12, 15-11)
Argentina debuted with victory in a long and exciting match against Colombia. Hope for reaching the World Championship Visa which is awarded only to Champion is still very light because of Brazil’s presence in competition. Still this win is a good start for the Argetinians. Madelayne Montaño was the top scorer of the match with 35 points, joined by 17 year old Argentina’s Sol Piccolo with 19.
Sosa Emilce: “Teamwork and high spirit led us to victory. Even when were in a slump we found strength to keep up with the flow of the game and in the end win it in tie-break”.
Paola Ampudia: “Today the reception was the worst part of our game. Argentina took advantage of that and we could not counter it.”
Peru – Venezuela 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-16)
Nearly 7000 people came to support the home team and they didn’t disappoint. Peru won their first game with 3-1 score over Venezuela and brought joy to their great fans. Karla Ortiz, Peru player was the top scorer of the match with 21 points, on the side of the Venezuelan Desiree Glod scored 15.
Mirtha Uribe: ”We were finally able to solve everything and Zoila La Rosa (setter of Peru) did a spectacular job to distribute the ball.”
Desiree Glod: “Congratulations to Peru because they are playing very well, and they will hopefully get very far.”
