Seven players – Alen Šket, Mory Sidibe, Carlos Moreno, Daniel Lewis, Borislav Petrović, Uroš Kovačević and Jayson Jablonsky – and assistant coach Gašper Ribič left the team at the end of last year, and the management looked for reinforcements close to home. Matija Pleško, who joined the group in the middle of the last season, remained with the team, while the new additions include Jan Brulec, Jan Pokeršnik (both played for Calcit Volleyball KAMNIK last year), Janko Bregant (Krka) and Anđelko Ćuk (who previously played in Korea). Finland’s Lauri Hakala completes the coaching staff.

As the president of the management board of ACH Volley Rasto Oderlap stressed at the official presentation, the team consists mainly of young Slovenian players, but nevertheless has the necessary quality to aim high. ACH Volley will play on four fronts during the 2013/2014 season; namely the Slovenian championship, the Slovenian cup, the Middle European League and most importantly the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League, and has high ambitions in all competitions.

Head coach Luka Slabe believes the season to be fraught with challenges, but he has faith in his young team: “We need to work hard to achieve results. The team is a mixture of experienced and young players, which could be good.” He also commented on the teams that ACH Volley is going to play in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League: “We are playing in a very strong group this year. The Italians of Copra Elior PIACENZA are very strong and one of the candidates for the Final Four. TOURS VB is also an excellent team. We don’t have much information about the Bulgarian team, Marek Union-Ivkoni DUPNITSA. Regardless of who we play, we will try to win every match”.

The 2014 Champions League season will kick-off next week with a tough away match against Italy’s vice-champions Copra Elior PIACENZA.
