Volleyball Canada has announced Daniel Lewis as the new head coach of the senior men’s national team.
Lewis, originally from Oakville, Ontario, brings extensive experience as both a former player and coach. A University of Manitoba graduate, he played professionally in Europe and served as a libero for Canada’s National Team until 2016.
Most recently, Lewis was Canada’s Next Gen coach and head coach of Alterna Stade Poitevin in France. He also guided Canada’s men’s National Excellence Program and led the team to a gold medal at the 2023 NORCECA Pan Am Cup.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Team Canada,” said Lewis. “The international game demands constant growth and top-level execution. I’m excited to collaborate with the athletes and staff toward this goal.”

Lewis takes over from Tuomas Sammelvuo, who helped secure Canada’s spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Volleyball Canada’s high-performance director, Julien Boucher, expressed confidence in Lewis, highlighting his international experience and strong coaching background.
The team’s 2025 season kicks off in Quebec City with week one of Volleyball Nations League at the Centre Videotron.
