Oleh Plotnytskyi Ends National Team Career at 27
Ukrainian volleyball star and longtime national team captain Oleh Plotnytskyi has officially stepped down from the national team. The 27-year-old made the heartfelt announcement via social media, ending a remarkable chapter of his career.
Plotnytskyi, who debuted for Ukraine on May 24, 2017, and became captain a year later, reflected on unforgettable moments, including the U20 European Championship in 2016 and historic quarter-final runs in both European and World Championships. He expressed deep gratitude to teammates, coaches, and fans, calling them part of his “volleyball heart.”
Despite the emotional farewell, Plotnytskyi hinted that a future return to the team isn’t off the table—though likely in a different role. He emphasized that his exit was a well-considered decision and suggested unresolved concerns with the federation played a part.
Currently playing for Sir Susa Vim Perugia in Italy, Plotnytskyi pledged to remain dedicated to the sport and to support the growth of Ukrainian volleyball.
“I remain loyal to this game… and maybe, we’ll meet again on the national team—in another role,” he wrote.
His departure marks the end of an era for Ukraine’s volleyball scene.
