Cuba vs Mexico
All the victories were by scores of 3-0 with the exception of the triumph of Canada over Peru in four well-fought sets (25-18, 26-24, 23-25, 25-20) in Pool A.
Also in Pool A, Dominican Republic dispatched Trinidad and Tobago (25-12, 25-11, 25-16) while Cuba did a quick job against hosts Mexico (25-19, 25-17, 25-21).
In Pool B in Pachuca, two-time defending champions USA downed Colombia 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 30-28) while Argentina defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 28-26).
