WL: China without mercy to hosts, impressive comeback of Greece

China had a lethal combination of attackers that swept hosts Mexico – 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21).

The toughest fight was seen in the second set. China jumped to a 8-5 lead but an exchange in service errors kept the game close in the second set. China finally found its rhythm as it attackers started to „bomb“ the Mexican defense. Mexico retaliated and moved closer until it tied at 20-all. China still owned the second set by 25-22.

China’s Zhang Zhejia scored 13 points to lead his team, while Mexican point leader Jorge Barajas scored only 9.

In the same pool, Andreas-Dimitrios Fragkos had 19 points in an outstanding turnaround of Greece as it has made a 3-2 (20-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 19-17) win over Slovakia.

In a tie-break, Greece jumped to a two point lead (8-6) as both teams were changing sides. Wtih two Greek unforced errors, Slovakia tied at 8-8. Greece had a match ball at 14-13, but Slovakians leveled and had their match ball at 16-15. Emanuel Kohút put Slovakia one point away for the win (17-16).  With three points in a row and huge block by Dmytro Filippov, Greece made a comeback.

Slovakian Milan Bencz contributed with 22 points, respectively, on a losing side.
