Volero
Swiss team made the players of last season’s Challenge Cup runners-up look like extras on the movie set and caused them painful defeat.
Yelling of legendary coach Nikolay Karpol on Uralochka time-outs was in vain as Volero had great effectiveness in attack which occasionally exceeded 60%. The guests from Russia had only 25%.
Olesia Rykhliuk scored 17 points in Volero, while the highest number of scored points in Uralochka was 6 – Irina Zaryazhko and Sinead Jack.
Polish PGE Atom Trefl Sopot victoriously began their fourth adventure in the Champions League. As visitiors, Trefl superbly otplayed Slovenian Calcit Volleyball Kamnik in Pool B 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17).
Katarzyna Zaroślińska led Trefl scorers with 17. On the other side, the newcomer Olivera Kostić collected 12.
As hosts, Italian Nordmeccanica Piacenza prevailed Russian Dinamo Moscow in a tough Pool F clash 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20).
Indre Sorokaite had a great game, scoring 20 points as the most efficient player in the winning team. Nataliya Obmochaeva had 18 in Dinamo.
