Olympiacos, who overwhelmingly won the regular season in the Greek Championship with a 21-1 record and swept the playoff semifinal series with No.4 seed A.S.P. Thetis, successfully started the finals. The team from Piraeus achieved a straight-set win over third seed Pannaxiakos, at home, partially 25-14, 25-21 and 25-17 to get a 1-0 in the series and now need two more wins to claim the national title.
