IRN M: PLAYOFF STARTED – Ebadipour unstoppable in Urmia’s win, Paykan barely survive scare

The playoff of Iran’s Super League started with all favorites achieving relatively smooth wins except for Paykan, who struggled in their quarter-final clash.

Top-seeded Bank Sarmayeh hosted eighth-seeded Arman Varzesh Ardakan, who showed a good performance at the beginning of Set 1, but from middle of and until end of the game they left control to favorites 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19).

Paykan, who claimed second place on the table in regular stage, confronted Matin Varamin in Tehran and needed as much as 2 hours and 40 minutes to down the guests in tie-break 3-2 (27-29, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, 18 -16).

Third-seeded Shahrdari Urmia defeated Saipa in front of 5,000 fans in own „Ghadir hall“ having to invest huge effort to prevail motivated visitors 3-1 (28-26, 25-15, 25-27, 25-16). Milad Ebadipour from home team got 22 points while Mojtaba Shaban from Saipa scored 19 points.

Home team of Samen Al Hojaj (fourth in regular stage) smashed fifth-seeded Shahrdari Tabriz at home court in Mashhad, in front of 2, 500 supporters 3-1 (26-24, 26 -24, 22-25, 25-23).

Second leg of each playoff quarter-final is scheduled for Fenruary 17 with two wins securing semi-final spot.
