Weakened Italian champions Diatec Trentino somehow managed to survive scare in Belgium against Volley Asse-Lennik in the first leg of the CEV Champions League Playoffs 12 – 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13).

Asse-Lennik vs. Trentino

Without two important players in their roster, Filippo Lanza (out for almost a month) and Greek Mitar Đurić (remained on the bench as a precautionary measure), Trentino had many troubles against Belgian silver medalists.

Trentino were very often forced to chase the result. The finish of Set 4 was especially critical since Asse-Lennik reached 21-19.

Unfortunatelly for their fans, Asse-Lennik failed to convert it, while the tie-break was full of turnarounds (1-3, 7-5, 9-9) until the best scorer of home team, the Dutch Robin Overbeeke (28 points), did not commit two errors in a row (11-13). Argentine middle blocker from Trentino, Sebastian Solé, finished it for 13-15.

In Italian team, Đurić’s substitution in line-up, Gabriele Nelli was the most efficient player with 17 points.
