Two semifinals, two tie breaks! After dramatic volleyball battles on Saturday evening one thing is certain – Montreux Volleyball Tournament will get a new champion!
It is because the reigning champions Turkey got eliminated by Thailand in a thrilling 5-set drama. The Asian team managed to perform a spectacular comeback in the tie-break as they were firstly down by 1:6 and then by 11:14! Thailand saved all match points of their opponents, tied the score at 15:15 and then won the game by 19:17!
The top scorer of the match was Ajcharaporn Kongyot of Thailand with 22 points.
In the other match, China were down against Netherlands by 0-1 and 1-2 in sets. However, the persistent Chinese crew managed to take this match into the tie-break and to win that fifth set by 15:9. The last point was scored by Xiangyu Gong, who was also the top scorer of the game with 26 points.
The big finals between China and Thailand is scheduled for Sunday, 16:00 (CET).
