Portugal women’s national team will depart on Wednesday for Romania from Lisbon to play there in Piatra Neamt the first round robin for the second qualification round of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship. After completing their last training session at Colegio Internato dos Carvalhos, the group around head coach Fernando Luis and assistant coach Filipe Lacerda feels ready to play Romania, Croatia and Great Britain.

“The team’s preparation has been great” says Lacerda. “The first week helped us know better the newcomers and integrate them with the players we have been working with for a long time. The group has learned what we want and so far everything is working well. First we have to prepare the team and then we think about our opponents. Our main goal at this point is to organize our game plan and the players are aware of that. Without underestimating the potential of our athletes, we believe that Romania’s and Croatia’s level is higher than ours, so we have to work hard and show the right mental approach”.

Daniela Loureiro is the motivated team captain: “We have been working for two weeks and I believe we’ve worked hard, and we grew as a team. We are aware that we will play very tough matches, against very strong opponents, and so we need to stick together to overcome the difficulties”.
