In Pool C, India remained undefeated after two outings and secured a ticket in the top eight. The South Asian side held off a relentless Chinese Taipei in a tough five-set battle 25-22, 18-25, 25-18, 22-25, 17-15 in two hours and 40 minutes on Friday.

Anup De Costa registered 30 points, including 26 attacking and four blocking, followed by Deepesh Kumar Sinha who contributed 13 points. Huang Chung-Te led the other three Chinese with double figures in scoring 25 points. But they made 34 unforced errors compared with 26 by their rivals. Chuang Shih, head coach of Chinese Taipei, said “We were not lucky to win, Indian players are taller than us.’’
